Most days at the office, I just have time to gulp down a (lukewarm) bento before heading back to work. However, one lucky day, I came to the realization that I was a tiny bit ahead of schedule, and I actually had time for a real lunch. Like one that involved non-disposable silverware. So my assistant and I decided to pop into Jane Doe’ Kitchen for a bite and chat. The interior of the cafe is simple, yet inviting. Make sure to check the blackboard for the specials of the day.
I ordered a tomato and chicken toastie, and a latte. My assistant ordered a grilled shiitake mushroom burger along with a caramel macchiato. Both of our orders came with a side of french fries.
The bread was toasted to perfection, slathered with a (un)healthy amount of butter before hitting the grill, which gave it the most gloriously crispy texture.
Update: Since our last visit, Jane Doe has made some adjustments to the menu. Burgers are now part of their specials, and grilled sandwiches no longer come with a side of fries. The owner mentioned this was partly to streamline the menu, and shorten the waiting time.
This time my friend and I ordered off their specials board (for her: grilled cheese with spinach and chicken, and for me: grilled cheese with spinach).
I’m happy to report that the sandwiches are still as tasty and hearty as before~ and honestly it’s probably more conducive to a work day not eat fries (and then lapse into a food coma for the rest of the afternoon).
