Happy National Donut Day! 手工甜甜圈

My cousin Belinda reminded me that today is National Donut Day!

My other cousin gave me a silicon donut baking pan from Muji a few Christmases ago.  The packaging was so perfect that for  the longest time, I was satisfied just admiring it instead of using it.  But how can you let a donut pan sit in its lonesome box, when it’s National Donut Day?

最近台灣不斷的下大雨! 像這種天氣我能不出門就不出門 不是窩在家裡趕工作進度 就是研究新食譜。 前幾天在廚具櫃裡面翻到我堂妹送我的 無印良品甜甜圈烤盤。 幾年來,一直捨不得裁可愛的包裝~但那週末真決定 “this is the moment” 要來嘗試烤甜甜圈!


I used the recipe included in the box.  Both the ingredients and instructions are simple, and they only take 15 minutes to bake! Plus, the recipe includes yogurt! We all know I love adding yogurt to my desserts.   Yogurt makes any dessert instantaneously healthy, in my book. 🙂


The recipe  can be stirred up in one bowl, and makes exactly four donuts (or six mini donuts)  甜甜圈的其實材料跟步驟都很簡單~只需要麵粉, 糖,優格,蛋,油跟泡打粉。 均勻攪拌 就可以倒入烤盤直接近烤箱了。 (花了我不到15 分鐘的時間~而且烤15分鐘就能上桌了!)


Just pop them into the oven and they are ready in about 15 minutes or so.  I didn’t have a toothpick handy, so I just used a fork to test for doneness.


Overall, I think the recipe needs some tweaking. For instance, I would probably play around with the amount of sugar, and the flavorings.  I also  forgot to add oil in the first batch I made, and I thought they were already pretty tasty.  Out of curiosity, I tried baking a second batch with oil and the texture was even better; but there was definitely  a hint of olive oil in the taste. Maybe next time I’ll try using melted butter, more vanilla and a smidgeon more sugar.


One of the most fun parts of the process might be deciding what toppings to use.  This time, I just used the ingredients that I had on hand (some powdered sugar, a dash of cinnamon, and some strawberry jam) But I can totally see topping these with some chocolate glaze and sprinkles too!

第一盤烤出來我就迫不急待的咬了一口, 才記得要拍照 (oops) 真的味道跟 texture 還不錯。 用烤的甜甜圈當然不能跟市面上炸的甜甜圈比較~烤的甜甜圈口感會比較紮實。 而且我發覺我忘了加油 (oops again)。 但還是好吃的。 為了滿足我的好奇心, 我再試了第二次, 這次有加了一點橄欖油。 口感變了 even better.  就真的比較蓬鬆, 比較 light. (會有淡淡的橄欖油香氣~所以下次我會試著用融化的奶油試一試)

從自己的廚房裡, 也能蹦出甜甜圈覺得真的很新奇! Like magic!

Muji Donut Recipe  (Makes 4 donuts)

(Group A)

  •  flour 60g
  • baking powder 1 teaspoon
  •  sugar 2 1/2 teaspoons

(Group B)

  • yogurt 1 teaspoon
  • 1 egg
  • oil 1 tablespoon

Combine dry ingredients (Group A), combine wet ingredients (Group B). Then combine both dry and wet ingredients together, mix thoroughly, and pour into the baking pan.  Bake for 15 minutes, at  170 C  or 325 F.
